Engineering mock-up of Earth Remote Sensing satellite “Zvezda” successfully assembled at the SC AIT Facility premises
Sep 24, 2025
This project became a prime example of effective cooperation between leading organizations in the Russian space industry, such as the Izhevskiy Radiozavod, the Center for Space Technologies of the Moscow Aviation Institute, and the SC AIT Facility.
Joint-Stock Company “Izhevskiy Radiozavod” (IRZ JSC), a leading enterprise in the developimg and manufacturing radio technical systems, presented a highly precise on-board radar X-band complex for the satellite mock-up. This complex is designed for glacier, environmental and geotechnical monitoring. It will allow monitoring of subsidence in the areas where gas transmission network facilities and other critical facilities of Gazprom, PJSC ground infrastructure are located, regardless of weather conditions and light level.
The Moscow Aviation Institute, a leading flagship of the Russian aerospace education and scientific researches, designed and presented the mock-up of the satellite platform. It is designed to be the fundamental basis housing all the SC functional systems.
Gazprom SC AIT Facility was not only an initiator and participant of the project, but also the central assembly site. By providing the state-of-the-art infrastructure, a designated assembly workshop and highly qualified experts, Gazprom SC AIT Facility ensured the best conditions for the project implementation. The employees of the SC AIT Facility were actively involved in the process gaining practical experience in system integration and spacecraft assembly within the actual manufacturing conditions.
The implementation of this project also contributes to the formation of personnel reserve for specialized organizations attracting experts and students from MAI. Moreover, such cooperation will allow establishing an additional network of suppliers for payload and equipment and, what is more important, performing the full practical cycle of SC assembly activities for the SC AIT Facility and its personnel. This cooperation is also a key step towards qualifying Gazprom AIT Facility, LLC as a manufacturer of space flight models.
The satellite mock-up “Zvezda” will be presented at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (SPIGF) this autumn.
